Frequently Asked Questions

How do I purchase tickets?

Tickets for CSO performances may be purchased by calling the CSO Customer Service Center at (423)267-8583, via the CSO website, or by visiting the CSO at 630 Chestnut Street. Regular Customer Service Center hours are Monday-Friday, 10-4.

What do I wear?

The most important thing is your comfort! People come dressed in all manner of clothing for CSO performances. Opera and Thursday Symphony performances tend to be the most formal, and people typically dress in “Sunday best” or business meeting attire. Friday Fanfare and Pops performances have a more relaxed feel with attire ranging from jeans to dresses.

When do I arrive?

The Tivoli Theatre opens one hour before each performance. It is best to arrive fifteen to thirty minutes prior to the performance to ensure ample time for seating. Snack and beverage service are available in the lobby prior to performances and during intermission, so take a moment to relax and get comfortable. If you arrive after the performance begins, an usher will seat you at an appropriate interval in the performance.

Where do I park?

There is FREE PARKING for Tivoli patrons at evening and weekend CSO events, courtesy of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. The garage entrance is on 7th Street, between Broad and Chestnut.

How long is the concert?

CSO performances are approximately two hours long.

How long is intermission?

CSO performances have an approximate 15 minute intermission.

When do I clap?

At a classical concert, the audience usually applauds at the end of an entire work, not between movements. Please refer to your program to find out how many movements are in each piece. If still in doubt, wait until others are clapping and follow their lead!

Is there anything I should avoid during the performance?

Even the smallest sounds are amplified in a performance hall. Before the performance begins, please unwrap candy, turn down hearing aids and turn off all pagers, cell phones, beepers, and watch alarms. Photography and sound recordings are not permitted. Avoiding these and other distractions helps create an environment in which the music can be heard and enjoyed by all.

Does the Tivoli Theatre have accommodations for disabled patrons?

Yes! The Tivoli Theatre is fully ADA compliant. Please see an usher if you require extra assistance.

I'd like to hire the CSO to perform at my event. How do I go about this?

Please contact the CSO office at (423)267-8583.

I missed the concert. Do you have a recording?

At this time, CSO recordings are not available for sale. However, the CSO records each Masterworks concert for eventual broadcast on 90.5/WSMC-FM. Contact the CSO office for more information on show dates and times.
